چکیده

Introduction: The incidence of cor triatriatum among neonates with congenital heart disease is only 0.1% to 0.4%. The diagnosis in adults is extremely rare. Case: A 68 years old patient was referred to our cardiovascular surgery department following transthoracic echocardiography and a diagnosis of cor triatriatum. Echocardiography was performed due to stroke and atrial fibrillation. Echocardiography showed a membrane in the left atrium, with the typical presentation of cor triatriatum type 1A. We operated the patient and excised the membrane. The operation was completed conventionally with sinus rhythm. Conclusion: Cor triatriatum in geriatrics is a rare congenital cardiac abnormality and can be a reason for atrial fibrilation and stroke. Treatment of choice is surgery.

A very rare case of late diagnosis of cor triatriatum sinistrum

We presented a 73-year-old patient with a history of hospitalizations for heart failure as well as treatment for arterial hypertension and permanent atrial fibrillation and who was found to have cor triatriatum sinistrum in combination with bicuspid aortic valve. Patient refused surgical correction, but his condition improved on conservative therapy for heart failure and atrial fibrillation.

Adult cor triatriatum sinistrum: a rare cause of ischaemic stroke

A 55-year-old male was referred to the cardiologist because of the occurrence of two ischaemic strokes within five months’ time in the absence of documented atrial fibrillation. At echocardiography, a membrane was visualised in the left atrium (cor triatriatum) (Fig. 1a). Since no other abnormalities were detected, the cor triatriatum was held responsible for the cardioembolic stroke. Surgical ...

Getting to the right left atrium: Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and mitral annular flutter in cor triatriatum

Cor triatriatum is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly that is characterized by a thin membrane separating the left atrium both functionally and anatomically. Patients with cor triatriatum are at risk for atrial arrhythmias, which can be especially symptomatic owing to a functional mitral stenosis physiology. We present a case of a patient with cor triatriatum and drug-refractory atrial fibrillat...
